SAM Known Issues

Below is a list of issues with the SAM Animation 1.2 software that we are aware of and working to remedy. In the meantime, please find some suggested solutions should these problems arise. We encourage you to submit additional issues in the "Known Issues" section of the forum.

1. Camera Compatibility issues due to WinVDig/Quicktime

Message: Problem connecting video output to video renderer.

Message: Problem starting streaming.

Black screen instead of camera view.

Camera view that is mis-colored, grainy, or otherwise distorted.

Workarounds:

- Try a different camera.

- Use an alternative means to save jpegs to your computer, and batch import them.

2. OpenGL Compatibility. SAM requires at least OpenGL 1.1 and we recommend 1.2

White screen instead of SAM interface.

SAM quits immediately after launching.

Messages about insufficient openGL support.

Solution: Update your video card driver. On Windows, you can find this under Control Panel.

3. Application Configuration messages:

SAM fails to launch, or quits immediately afterwards.

Your computer is missing a required system dll, or SAM is unable to find a required system dll.

Solutions:

- Run any available Windows updates for your computer.

- Reinstall SAM.

- Run this "re-distributable from Microsoft" LINK

4. Choppy Playback/ Dropped Frames

In SAM Preferences adjust the setting entitled "Movie Playback Update Interval" to be higher.

This lets SAM know you are having performance issues and will tax your computer less.

You may have to tweak this until you find a setting that works.

Also quit any other programs/processes that may be draining system resources.

5. Video Camera Problems

A new generation of video cameras that record video to a flash media drive, instead of using a tape, are causing some problems for users. Unfortunately, many of these cameras do not support USB streaming - which SAM requires.

Webcams, typically used for video chatting or other similar applications, will work, and we have listed a couple recommendations here. We're sorry for the inconvenience, and hope that you can explore importing video in place of capturing frames directly from the software.
